To the naked eye, and even a trained observer, it can be difficult to detect and measure subtle differences within a longitudinal image data set. In the world of clinical trials, the ability to accurately quantify and document those differences β€” visually and with data β€” is crucial for FDA approval.

Much like our Halloween spider web image analysis, the beauty and simplicity of life science are often buried within a maze of complexity through which the right technology and expertise can help a researcher navigate and discover the answers they seek.

Case in point: When we apply a similar image analysis methodology, as we see in the spider web network analysis, to the assessment of pulmonary vasculature in contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CE-CT) exams, we discovered that the diseased subject cohort had one (1) fewer level of pulmonary vasculature branching than subjects in the healthy cohort (control). Previously, and without quantitative software, this had gone undetected by human observers! Learn how we did it.
